Meridian Stress Assessment
Optimal health depends upon may factors, two fundamental ones being the proper functioning of the nervous system and the acupuncture meridian system (AMS). Musculoskeletal therapy (especially spinal and cranial adjusting) helps balance the nervous system; acupuncture meridian therapy the meridian system. A related therapy, Meridian Stress Assessment (MSA), checks the electric conductance of acupuncture points related to various body systems, such as digestive, respiratory, glandular, reproductive, etc. Abnormal values can indicate stress in the associated organ, gland, or tissue. Chemical, environmental and other types of allergies can also be assessed; viral, bacterial, fungal, and other toxins and their impact on the body can be inferred. Therapeutic modalities like herbal, homeopathic, and nutritional can be evaluated to see which best balance the meridian points.
Meridian Stress Assessment has been practiced for over 50 years. The procedure is noninvasive. The patient holds an electrode while meridian points, mostly on the hands and feet, are checked with a flat or round tipped stylus Readings, or electric conductance values, are displayed on a computer that shows the points being tested. High values indicate hyper function or irritation of the related area, low ones hypofunction or weakening. The current used is very small - the only sensation generally felt is the probe touching the skin. MSA has been shown to be a sensitive form of allergy testing to both natural and human-made products. Earth has become very polluted - the US Environmental Protection Agency has identified over 40,000 Superfund cleanup sites. These range from radiation to PCB's to more. Over 750 are in Arizona, with over half here in the valley. Many toxins are fat-soluble and can mimic our hormones, also affecting how we think and feel. Heavy metals can be stored in our bones. Some carcinogenic ones are on longer used but still remain in the environment. MSA can indicate approaches to help rid them from the body.
